From a photograph
to a document.

Four steps, no retyping. Everything up to the optional cleanup pass happens on the iPhone in your hand.

  1. Photograph the page

    Point the camera at a notebook page, a whiteboard, a problem sheet, or a textbook. The guided scanner checks focus, glare, and page edges before it accepts the shot, so the recognizer gets a page worth reading.

  2. The page is read on your device

    Apple's Vision text recognition runs on the iPhone itself. Ink2TeX then works out the structure of what it read — headings, paragraphs, numbered lists, display equations, tables, and underlined terms — instead of returning one flat block of text.

  3. You get a real LaTeX document

    Sections, equation environments, itemized lists, and tabular blocks are assembled into a complete document with its preamble, not a loose string of symbols. Uncertain readings are marked for you rather than guessed at silently.

  4. Edit, compile, export

    Correct anything you like in the built-in LaTeX editor, compile it to a PDF on the phone, and send the .tex and .pdf anywhere — Files, Mail, Messages, or straight into an Overleaf project.

Scientific pages are not plain text. Ink2TeX is designed around the things that make them hard — layout, notation, and the symbols recognizers habitually confuse.

Handwriting and print

Lecture notes, worked solutions, exam papers, whiteboards, and printed textbook pages. Mathematics written by hand is what Ink2TeX is built for.

Equations as equations

Display formulas become equation environments, fractions stay fractions, and sub- and superscripts survive the trip. Matrices and cases keep their shape.

Structure, not soup

Titles, paragraphs, numbered and bulleted lists, tables, and underlines are detected as separate blocks, and you can correct any block's type before the document is built.

Subject dictionaries

Seven subject vocabularies sharpen recognition where it usually fails — ρ against p, ℓ against l, Σ against E — and rank alternatives instead of overwriting your page.

A LaTeX editor that helps

Syntax highlighting, full undo, and a plain-English error list built from the compiler log, with the line each problem came from.

A PDF, compiled on the phone

A real TeX engine ships inside the app, so your document is typeset on the device — with no server round trip and no TeX distribution to install.

Overleaf in one step

Send the finished source straight into a new Overleaf project when you want to keep working on a laptop, or share the .tex and .pdf through the usual iOS share sheet.

A library of your work

Every scan is saved on the device with its source and equations, searchable, renameable, and recoverable from Trash.

How do I convert handwritten math to LaTeX?

Photograph the page with Ink2TeX, let it recognize the writing on the device, review the blocks it found, and it assembles an editable LaTeX document you can compile, correct, and export. There is no retyping and no symbol palette to hunt through.

Is there an iPhone app that turns handwriting into LaTeX?

Ink2TeX is exactly that: an iPhone app that scans handwritten or printed mathematics and produces a complete LaTeX document, with an editor and a PDF compiler built in.

Does Ink2TeX work offline?

Scanning, text recognition, structure detection, LaTeX generation, editing, and PDF compilation all run on your iPhone and work in airplane mode. Only the optional AI cleanup pass needs a connection.

Can I edit the LaTeX it produces?

Yes. The result opens in a LaTeX editor with syntax highlighting, undo, and a readable list of compiler errors, beside a live PDF preview. Nothing is locked.

Does it really compile a PDF on the phone?

Yes. A TeX engine and a set of standard packages are bundled with the app, so your document is typeset on the device rather than sent to a server to be built.

Can I open the result in Overleaf?

Yes. Ink2TeX hands the finished source to Overleaf as a new project in one step, and you can also share the .tex and .pdf files through the iOS share sheet.

Which subjects does it understand?

Ink2TeX ships with vocabularies for mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, engineering, and statistics, plus shared rules for layout and transcription. You pick the subject before scanning and recognition is tuned to it.

Does it work with printed pages as well as handwriting?

Yes. Printed textbook pages, problem sheets, and slides are read the same way — handwriting is simply the harder case the app is designed around.

What happens to my pages and documents?

Page images are processed on the device and are never uploaded. If you use the optional AI cleanup, the drafted LaTeX text is sent to the Ink2TeX service for that request and is not retained for training or analytics unless you opt in.

What will Ink2TeX cost?

The app is free to download, and scanning, recognition, LaTeX generation, editing, PDF compilation, and export do not cost anything. The optional AI cleanup is counted in pages, available through a subscription or as page packs, and pricing is shown in the app before anything is bought.
